OPIUAI IN THE EAST. INQUIRY TO BE AIADE. (British Official AVireless.) RFC BA'. Sept. 20. The British request for an inquiry into opium smoking in tlie Far East came before the Fifth Committee of the League yesterday. Thirteen delegates, including-*' six on behalf of the British Common wealthvoted in favour of an inquiry. Seventeen refrained from voting, and China, although favouring an investigation extended to include other dangerous, drugs and contraband, alone voted against the proposal. Thirteen of the seventeen States who refrained from voting were European.
A resolution favouring the inquire was forwarded to the Assembly. It. includes an expression of hope that the United States will permit the commissioners engaged on the inquiry to visit the Philippines.
