(Australian Press Association.) VICTORIAN TRAGEDY. FATHER AND DAUGHTER. SHOT. MELBOURNE, Sopt. 20. Harry Duel], aged 75, and his (Inlighter, Alice Duell, aged 35, wore found shot to-day at their home near Benalla, ’ Subsequently the body of William Shinnick was found in nearby hills.
A passor-by noticed someono making signs on’Duell’s house, and found Duell with one hand blown off, and tho other seriously injured, and the daughter with two shot wounds. Doth were taken to the hospital ,in a serious condition. Their depositions were taken. Searchers there found Shinnick’s body with a rifle alongside. Duell '-informed tho rescuer that Shinnick did tho shooting. It is understood that the inttcr had been paying ntteutention to Miss Duell, and that there 'had been frequent quarrels. SYDNEY MOTOR TRAGEDY. SYDNEY, Sept. 20. Two men, Edwin Kell, aged 18, and Robert Edward Grey, aged 25, were killed, • and three others were injured, one having his arm severed, when a car, containing nine men, returning from a football banquet, crashed into a telegraph polo fit Redferu, Sydney. Later, Hamilton Valda McLorie, driver of the car, was arrested and charged with feloniously slaying deceased, and also with driving while intoxicated. He was remanded.
FEDERAL POLITICS. CANBERRA, Sept. 21. The Federal Government deferred the' Now; Guinea Bill which was designed to create an executive council and a legislative council. There was considerable opposition to the measure. The Government is awaiting representations from New' Guinea.
