The Westland Acclimatisation Society is holding an important meeting at 7.30 o’clock to-night to meet opossum trappers and glean thenviews regarding the habits of the opossums as affecting bird life and the bush, with a view to formulating a general report to the 'Government on the matter in connection with the desire to see improved breeds of opossums brought into the district and allowed to spread through South Westland.

The death of Mi’s Larsen, wife of Mr Charles Ludwig Larsen, occurred at her late residence, Karoro, Greymouth on Wednesday after an illness of a few weeks’ duration. “ Just like a scene from a comic film,“ was tho comment o-f one of the witnesses' of a spectacular smash which took place at a street corner in Auckland. The principal performer was a young lady who was making a call in the telephone box. A slight collision between two motor-cars resulted in ono of the vehicles swinging round and crashing into the box, which was knocked from its foundations. The occupant /had the receiver to her ear at the time and, realising the danger of her position, crouched down, escaping with a scutch on the right leg when the box collapsed. She emerged on hands and knees.
