BOXING.

TOM lIEENEY AT GISBORNE. By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright GISBORNE, Sept. 14. To tho great delight of a cnpucit; packed Opera House to-night. Ton Heeney made what is to be his onh appearance in the ring in New Zoa

land, his brother Jack being his sparring partner. Tom Heeney was obviously out of condition, carrying about a stone and a-half above his real fighting weight. In three fast rounds he simply played with the former middleweight champion of New Zea-

land. There was much change in Ho:.ii,ey’s style in evidence since his last appearance in the Dominion, There was no idling, and he went to work like a tradesman throughout. It was a case of continually forcing on his part, and he brought into action much half arm hitting with both hands. Never for a moment did lie let up, but, ns befitted the occasion, tho blows, while snappy, lacked viciousness Needless to say, the lingo crowd were delighted beyond hounds, and at the conclusion rose, and everybody sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” In a six-round amateur bout Soastrand (Napier) got a lucky decision over Dryhurg (Napier). Mr R, L. Stewart of Wellington, was referee.

Tom Heonev leaves Gisborne on Sunday morning for the Wellington Boxing Association's function on Monday evening in his honour, which will be- attended by the. Prime .Minister, and other Ministers and Parliamentarians.
