BATIiIOKS’ PARADISE. COLOGNE, July 24. Amassing scones were witnessed last night at Coblenz, below the confluence of the Main and the Rhine. Bathers who had been diving found dozens of bottles of champagne lying on the river bed. Tho news soon spread, and altogether 300 bottles wero brought to tho surface by enthusiastic bathers. Although tho police, who hurried to the scene, tried to confiscate the booty, they wore powerless to do so against tho crowds that had assembled. In half an hour the river bank was littered with drunken people. It is believed that the champagne was smuggled into Coblenz from France —Coblenz is in French occupied territory—and subsequently thrown into the Rhine to avoid confiscation by the Customs, , •
