Ileeney and his wife attended a banquet :n their honour at Opotiki last night and afterwards motored to Motu, taking train there, and reaching town about 11 o’clock. They took up a position ,on an hotel balcony where they were loudly cheered by a crowd. Addresses off welcome were delivered by tlip Mayor and other citizens. Heenoy will bo entertained at a banquet given by the representatives of numerous public bodies to-night. Tomorrow ho attends a ( boxing contest and will give a sparring exhibition with his brother Jack, and on Saturday night will bo entertained by Gisborne and a visiting party of Wellington Savages. GISBORNE, Sept. 13.

Tom Heeney, in reply to addresses of welcome, praised American sportsmanship. He said he had gone there unknown, to he treated as though he were an American. The people of the United St" les were considered here and elsewhere as poor sports, hut, said Tom, you can get that right out of youi head. He announced that when he has finished his career he would come back and settle at Gisborne. Mrs Heeney in response to a call from the crowd spoke in reply.
