Tho Waterside Workers’ Conference, hy a big majority, decided to affiliate with tlio Australian and New Zealand Council of Trade Unions,' which will now have official power to act in the dispute. Tho shipowners have, refused a further. request by the watersiders for a conference. They stated they would not meet tho men’s representatives until work was resumed under the new award.

WATERSIDERS STATEMENT. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, September 13. The President of »thc Watersiders! Federation, Mr Mather, states his organisation is anxious to settle the waterfront trouble by constitutional means, but tho second pick-up clause in Judge Ileehy’s award is so obnoxious that his members, prefer to work under the old award, which actually prescribes lower rates of pay alternatively. Tho Federation prefers to tender for the. whole loading of ships, as some have already done in the case of wheat cargoes.
