Australian Press Assn.—United Service OBITUARY. SYDNEY, Sept. 10. Mr Lebbeus Hordern, well known in addition circles, who recently presented Captain Kingsford Smith with five thousand, and who was a brother to Sir Samuel Hordern, was found dead in bed at liis residence. Ilis death is believed to have been due to an overdose of a sedative, which he was taking for insomnia.

STEAMER ABLAZE. BEACHED AT ALBANY. PERTH, Sept. 10. With an amazing list, and with two holds burning fiercely, the steamer Oastlemoor has arrived at Albany. All efforts to rope with the outbreak proved futile. 3ne steamer’s plates buckled under the heat, and her mizzen mast sank two feet.

The vessel, which'was badly damaged, was beached near the deep-water pier. It is expected the outbreak oventually will he extinguished. The fire was first noticed on the 23rd. Aug. when the vessel was in the South Indian Ocean. In the run to Albany, the whole crew were compelled to work long hours in-blinding smoke and penetrating fumes, pumping tons of water hourly on the blaze.,

N.S.W. LORRY TRAGEDY. SYDNEY, Sept. 10.

A motor lorry, containing six men, ran over an embankment near Ka.imai and crashed into a tree. AVm. Williams and Ernest Tkirley. both of Fairfield were killed. Four others were seriously injured.
