DOMINION NEWS.

(By Telegraph—For Press Association. NEW BISHOP. WELLINGTON, Sept. 0. The Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop-elect of Aoton Roa, will he consecrated by Archbishop Avcrill, in Napier Cathedral on Sunday, Dec. 2. PAN-PAOIFIC CONFERENCE. N.Z. REPRESENTATIVE QUESTIONED. AUCKLAND, Sept. 10. Mrs C. A. Fraor, of Christchurch was a passenger by the Aorangi, returning from the Pan-Pacific Congress.

Questioned about Dr Staley’s alleged reflection on New Zealand girls, she said: “You can take it from me, as leader of the New Zealand section, that there is no truth in the statement ns cabled. It was based on a statement at a round table conference at which the press were not present, and which was mentioned to a pressman, who put his own wrong interpretation on it. Dr Staley did not use the term business girl or business girls, and she did make use of the word fliipD?r when speaking of the younger generation of Now Zealand women, hut in doing so had no idea of what meaning flapper would convey to some Americans. As a matter of fact in certain parts of America it means something totally different to our interpretation. Dr Staley was much upset oyer the whole matter because she was guiltless of any disparaging remarks on New Zealand girls.”
