REPLY TO MURRAY. AUCKLAND, Sept. 10.
“We arc surprised but not impressed with the indictment of League football in New Zealand by Dave Murray on bis return to Australia,” said the President of the New Zealand Rugby League Mr O. A. Sneddon this morning. “According to Murray, an Australian, who acted baggage man and rubber down for the English League team while in New Zealand, tho Christchurch Test match was a fierce battle.. This is strangely in conflict with Ohrictfhurrh press reports of the game, and tho opinon expressed by the English team managers, Mossrs Osborne and Hutchins, who said 1 it was a tense splendid game, played with the best of good feeling.” Mr Sneddon said it was not considered in New Zealand that Murray was in a fit position to judge tho playing abilities of the New Zealand teams and his reported opinion that they would he “curtain-raiser” standard in Australia was not : shared by Messrs Osborne and Hutchins, who believe that another New Zealand team will tour England within the next seven years. He was pleased Murray admitted that, off the field, the Englishmen were treated splendidly. Murray was also the .guest of New Zealand.
