TRAIN STRIKES A CAR. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept., 10. Eenrly this afternoon, a motor-car was struck by a train on a railway crossing at Addington, Tho driver attempted to pull up, but tho car was struck by the engine and thrown over the cattle stops, and damaged almost beyond recognition. Tho occupants were not injured.
A FISH SHOP ASSAULT. . WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Resenting some remarks passed, according to counsel about New Zealanders and New Zealand football, Walter Norris a young olerk, assaulted John Weir, in a fish shop on Saturday night. He was fined £5, in default a month’s imprisonment, .£2 10s of the fine to be paid to Weir for medical expenses. ,
LUCKY ESCAPE. AUCKLAND, September 11. Mrs Beckham, of Auckland, driving a two-seater car near Rangariri, was unable to negotiate a sharp turn, and crashed through a bridge railings and fell with the ear ton feet into the river, the car landing upside down, almost completely submerged. Mrs Beckham and a male passenger scrambled out and neither were seriously injured. TRAM FARE DISPUTE. AUCKLAND, September 11. Oncliunga Borough Council by six votes to four carried a motion to talce legal advice on the steps necessary to compel the Tramway Department to remove tram and tram tracks from the, borough.
