Wang voiced China’s keen desire to co-operate with the League towards peace, on a basis of Western civilisation, which was valued as an assurance of China’s stability. AAithin a measure-able distance, China wished to remove till harriers to full concord with die rest of the world. Here anent some revision ol the treaties was desired.
Tlio Swede, Undin, vigorously expressed disappointment that despite Versailles, Locarno and tho Kellogg Pact that'were unable to assure impatient peoples that a sufficient degree of. security had been achieved to tackle disarmament, to which ever increasing obstacles were exasperating. He hoped the Assembly would liend its energies towards their removal. The Dutchman, Nonblokland, said he thought tho League should ho gratified at the Kellogg Pact and FrancoBritisli naval agreement, lioth of which were steps enabling it to approach disarmament with an atmosphere devoid of scepticism. TWO STATEMENTS.
LONDON, Sept. 5. 'Following M Briancl’s and Herr Mueller’s ninety minutes’ conversation, M. Driand made statement to tlie press. He said: “No Rhineland negotiations occurred. Germany 1»y virtue of the provisions of Versailles Treaty has a perfect right to seek negotiations thereon. Had she done so to-day I would have replied tnat it was a question which France could not discuss, except in the presence of or at least with the consent of three others conscorned, namely Britain, Belgium and Italy.” H added that further conversations were probable. The German delegation, in a statement said:—“The object of tbe conversations was the discussion of var-
ious problems of interest to both countries, including the Rhineland evacuation, but the meeting was merely of a preliminary character.” Both Briand and Mueller arc hopeful that the conversations will bo taken up at Geneva V tbe nations concerned.
