POWDERED LEGS. PARIS, July 24. Bare legs treated with skin cream and powdered so delicately that they appear to ho encased in the finest silk that shows no pleat or crease and stockings that look ns though they are made of zebra skin are the rival bidders for the favour of the Paris-
leimes. They caused a sensation in tlie Bois de Boulogne and at the races to-day. There is a great controversy among the womenfolk as to wlio launched tlie respective innovations, and opinion is greatly divided as to which’ fashion, will prevail. The silk stocking devotees naturally favour the zebra stocking, but the beauty parlours declare that the powdered leg will win the day at Deauville and Le Torquct this summer. Deauville appears to be generally in favour of the bare-legged fashion, whereas Le Touquet shows a tendency towards tlie zebra stocking. 651 MILES IN A DAY. LONDON, July 18. In the 24 hours ending at noon to-day tlie Cunard liner Mauretania, under Captain McNeil’s command, created a new world’s record for the greatest day’s run on the Cherbourg-New York route.
