TASMAN FLIGHT.

(Australian Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 30. The Post and Telegraph Department has directed amateur radio transmitters to keep off the air during the Tasman flight. Amateur transmission from or in the neighbourhood of the 30 to 36 metre, band is strictly prohibited For obvious reasons it would be advisable if all amateur transmission on other wave lengths also should cease during that period, and thus leave no ground fir* complaint by this Department, tin aviators, or the owners of crystal sc i listening to the broadcast of the flight. CHRISTCHURCH PREPARATIONS. GREAT CROWD EXPECTED. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 31. In Christchurch careful preparations have been made for welcoming the aviators. It is expected that the largest crowd that has ever assembled in the city will he present at Sockburn when the Southern Cross appears over the Southern Alps. Full preparations have been made by tramways and railways for handling large crowds of people. and elaborate means have been prepaerd for dealing with, motor traffic. Districts about the city have been divided and motors will have to keep within their own zones, each of which will he identified by a distinctive colour. Everything possible is being done to ensure that all will be a lie to see the landing perfectly, but at the same time every precaution has to he taken to ensure the safety of all.

FEVERISH HASTE. TAKE OFF AT 9 p.m. (Received this day at 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 31. Feverish haste is being displayed at Richmond Aerodrome to set the Southern Cross in good trim for the Tasman flight. The floodlights will he tested to-night. These will enable the Southern Cross to take off safely on Sunday night at nine o’clock instead of ten as cabled.
