Australian Press Assn.—United Service VISIT TO CANADA. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) j OTTAWA, August 25. Visiting members of the inter-par-liamentary Union arrived at Quebec and expressed intense interest in the gathering of information concerning Canada. Rodolphe Lcniicux (Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons) hoarded the ship and received the incoming group and welcomed them to Canada. Then Peel replied on behalf of the visitors.
During their stay members of the Union will discuss principally the development of inter-Empire trade, migration and settlement.
D. KIRKWOOD ON EMIGRATION M ONTREA L, August 25.
David Kirkwood, member 'for Dumbarton Rotough, and also a member of the Empire Parliamentary Association, interviewed here, said that he represented the class of workmen who were being asked to emigrate. He remarked : “ Wo are watching this movement carefully. We of the working class realise what it means for young men to move to a land whose ways are foreign. leaving broken hearts and unhappy homes behind them. 'The very men who are being asked to leave their homes are tho men who would he called upon in times of war to defend their country, hut now there is no room for them 1 ”
BOSTON HOSPITALITY. FOR AUSTRALIAN CRUISER. NEW YORK, Aug. 25. Boston City is planning a reception to return that given to the United States Fleet in Australia in 1925 when the cruiser “Australia” arrives there to-morrow. Tho city will offer a reception similar to that accorded to the home-coming trans-Atlantic fliers. The State and city officials and naval officers, with the co-operation of the British Consul, have planned a. programme insuring activities for tho visitors from the time of their arrival until they leave for New York next Wednesday.
Rear-Admiral Andrews (Commandant of the Naval Yard). General Brown and Governor Euller will receive Admiral Hyde and his staff, after which the crew will attend the American Legion exercises. Admiral Hyde and his staff will dine with the acting British Consul and General ■Evans. The Sunday programme includes services at Trinity Church, n country club dinner, and dinners with Admiral Andrews and at the British Summer Embassy at Beverly Farm. The subsequent days will bo filled with theatre parties, receptions, visits to factories, and clubs, and to baseball games. Mayor Nichols, of Boston, will present the keys of the city to the visitors. The “Australia” will bo open to the public and plans have been made to handle thousands of visitors while she is at Boston.
