Work in connection with the electrification of the Lyttelton tunnel is progressing satisfactorily, states Mr H. ,T. Wyles, who is in charge of the work. The overhead gear has been completed at the north end of the tunnel.
The death occurred yesterday morning at his residence. Blackball, of Mr Charles Simpson, aged 44. Deceased, who followed the occupation of a miner, had been ailing for some time. He is survived by his widow, son and daughter.

The North Canterbury Hospital Board lias recommended the appointment of Dr I. C. Maclntyre, assistant .superintendent at Cashmere Sanatorium-, to the position of superintendent in succession to Dr 0. J. Blaekmoro, who has resigned. The salary was fixed at £llOO a year.
At the Princess Theatre last night Ella Robertson in her dance “Sylvia ” pleased the audience by her dainty charm and clever toe work. This young lady will go far and with tuition should he as successful in the dancing world as her cousin, Miss Phyllis Monkman, of London.

Admitted during month, (H.), males 62, females 55; (0.P.H.) males 2. Discharged during month, (H.), males 46. females 47; (0.P.H.), nil. Deaths during month. (11.), males 3, females 3; (0.P.11.) males 1. Remaining, at the end of month : (II.), males 51, females 38; (0.P.H.), males 31, females 6.
The death occurred yesterday at Richmond, Nelson, ol Miss Rose Pednv/.y.i, youngest daughter of Mr Louis Pcdra/.sii. formerly of Ross and Alawhcraiti. The deceased, who was 27 years of ago, was a native of Ross, and had been in a delicate state of health for some years. Beside her father she leaves one sister (Mrs Mirfin, of Hope. Nelson), and Mr Louis Pedray.zi, of the Postal Department, Christchurch, and lately of Greymouth. Deceased was a niece of Mrs W. Garth, of Greymouth, and was favourably known to a wide circle of friends, who will sympathise with the relatives in their bereavement.
