There appears to he a deadlock as to whether Air W. Noswortliy or Air D. Jones shall have the Reform Party label in the Alid-Canterbury contest. Air Noswortliy-'s claim consists in his expectation of a good vote from Ashburton. Mr G. W. Russell is standing ns a. Liberal for Mid-Canterbury, and likewise Afr IT. AI. Jones, of Ashburton.

A married woman, named Alay Alice AJcLennari, aged 62 years, was found hanging by a rope from a rafter in the washhoue at her residence, AlnoriHill, this morning. The woman had been in ill-health for some years. At an inquest this afternoon, a verdict of suicide by hanging, committed while of unsound mind, owing to illhealth, was returned.
