The West Coast Golf Championships opened to-day at the Omoto links, with bad weather conditions prevailing. A. AA’ilson 89, 181. The trophy for the best aggregate score resulted in a tie between Park and A. Tv. Smith, with 154. The morning medal handicap was won by Quinn, his score being 80 (22) 04.

The afternoon medal was won by A.’lv. Smith with 72 (7) 65.

GREYAIOITTH RETAIN SHIELD.

YOUNGEST PLAYER BEST SCORER The host score for the day was made ,by A. Tv. Smith of the*Grey mouth Club, a young player of great promise, who did an excellent round of 72. In conjunction with the qualifying round there was a medal handicap which was won by Airs Million (AYest-p-irt) with a net score of 70, her gross score being 95, and her handicap 25, For second place two other AYestnort players tied with 75, namely, Mrs Slee 87 (12) 75 and Aliss Kelly 119 (35) 1 5. DANNEVIRKE TOURNAAIENT (Bv Telegraph—Per Press Association i DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 22. The Dannevirke ladies’ golf tournament, which was postponed yesterday on account of bad weather, opened today under perfect climatic conditions. Airs Collinson (Palmerston North' headed the qualifying round for the championship with 86. She won her match in the first round one up, after a close game, with Airs Holden (Dnilnevirke).

The following is the draw for the h-emi-fijnnls to-morrow morning: Airs Collinson plays ATiss Aroore (Palmerston North), Aliss Gaisford (Alarton) plays Aliss Hindmarsh (Dannevirke). In the Talioraiti Handicap semi-finals Aliss Drummond (Dannevirke) plays Aliss Ormond (Napier) and Airs Spiers (Napier) plays Afiss Vincent (Featherston).
