Speaking prior to tile mid-day adjournment to-day, Mr Eric Moss said the operatic solo this morning was in favour of Alias Wylie who gave a good performance. The young lady had a voice of good quality. Aliss Alorris had not been as convincing. Aliss Dale had a voice of fair quality, but the phrasing had not lieen good. The prepared leading for 12—13 years was taken this morning. Air Bush as sorry to say the section was a weak one. The' readers liad the words, hut there was no colouring. There is ail art in being a good reader. The winner had the idea, hut her effort was not sustained as it should have been. The selection was from Ruskin. Tt was a lovely subject about grass, and should have appealed to the young people more than it did, both in the number of entries and the quality of the work.
“The Pair of Twins” recitation, Mr Bush said was a delightful section for the little tots, 7 years and under. They all did well—remarkably so, and the audience well appreciated the work too. ’me recalls in this section will lie heard later.
The ATonologuo (own selection) also pleased Mr Bush greatly, and lie is recalling the four performers. In the humorous recital a straight out decision was given. He complimented the performers on the manner in which their points were made. There was sonic surprises for the audience this morning in the juvenile dancing. A corps of tiny tots from Greymouth did very pleasing work, as did also some of the other visitors. There is a special dancing section this afternoon, for which a long programme is set down, and some of the dancing recall Is will have to he taken to-night. Country patrons will he wise to hook seats .or the second demonstration concert fixed for next Tuesday night. The box plan is open specially for country patrons up to Saturday forenoon.
