AMSTERDAM, August 4. At the Olympic Games to-day, the results were as follow: 1500 Motres Swim (free style).— First Round.—Arne Borg (Sweden) I, Charlton (Australia) 2, Crabbe (United States) 3. All three qualified for the final. The times respectively were: 20 mins 14.1-5 secs; 20 niins 17 2-5 secs; 20 mins. 17 4-5 secs. , Borg won by five yards. The race was swum in pelting rain. Borg led by a-quarter of a lap at the end of the first three laps. Charlton and Crabbe were side by side until 1350 metres had been covered, when they began to close on Borg. Charlton, sprinting tho faster, was a yard ahead of Crabbe at the finish. The 1500 motres swim resulted : First heat.—Arai (Japan) 1, Perentin (Italy) 2, Deman (Holland) 3. Lindsay, the New Zealander, was last. The first two qualified. The time was 21 mins. 35 2-5 sees. Lindsay was 125 metres behind, and was fifth in heat. Ladies 400 metres swim, first round. The first heat resulted: Miss Nobelius (United States) 1, Miss Stewart (Britain) 2. Time 5 mins 45 2-5 secs. This is a world’s record. Second heat: Miss McGary (United States) 1, Miss Tanner (Britain) 2, Miss Davey (Australia) 3. Won by two yards. Miss Tanner was two feet ahead of Miss Davey, who failed to qualify. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, August 4, In the single sculls (second round) the second heat resulted: Straka (Czeelio-Slovakia) 1, Wright (Canada) 2,. Wright is the holder of the Diamond Sculls. Straka won by five lengths. Time 8 mins. 36 2-5 sels. The third heat resulted: Pearce (Australia) 1, Scliwart (Austria) 2. Won by eight lengths. Pearce won easily despite a rainstorm. Time i mins 47 3-5 sees. The 3000 metres steeplechase final resulted: Loukaia 1, Nurmi 2, Anderson 3. All the placed men are from Finland. Loukaia won by 65 yards. The time was 9 mins. 21 4-5 secs. This is an Olympic record.
Women’s 400 metres relay race.— First heat.—Canada 1, Holland 2, France 3. Won by ten yards. Time 19 4-5 secs. This is a world’s record. Second heat: United States 1, Germany 2, Italy 3. Won bw one foot. Time 49 4-5 secs. This equals the previous world’s record. The finals of the Decathlon result-ed:—-Yrjoela (Finland) 7931; Doherty (United States) 770 G ; Stewart (TJ.S.A.I 7624; Churchill (U.S.A.) 7417; Jnnson (Sweden) 7286. No Brit-isher competed in this series. The Pentathlon resulted: Tho'' (Sweden) 1, Lindham (Sweden) 2, Kahl (Germany) 3, Turquand 4. Young (Britain) was sixth. The result of the modern Pentathlon over 4,000 metres across country was: Elkowski (Poland) 1, Lamppu (F! land) 2, Lindmann (Sweden) 3. AMSTERDAM, Aug. 4. A small rainsoaked crowd saw Borg 1 beat Charlton by five yards in the fifth heat of tho fifteen hundred metres. Tho Australian swam to instructions not to tire himself needlessly in tho effort to qualify for the somi-final. Charlton’s form is still onigmatical. He finished undistressed, hut the result does not encourage high hopes of retaining the title, in view of tho trouble he had to shake off Crabbe, the American. Borg took a five yards lead in the first fifty mottos and increaesd it by ten yards in the next two laps, from Charlton. Crabbe was following swimming stroke for stroke and he maintained his position practically unaltered for twentyfour laps.
In the third heat of the ladies 400 metres, first round, Miss McKinn (United States) 370 secs, Miss Millar (Now Zealand) 376 4-5 secs qualified. Won by five yards.
