At the Supreme Court, sentences were imposed- as follows: Whagntutere Honi Peka, seven years hard labour for rape on a young girl at Pikiwahine, near Whangarei. bummers Hereuika Edwards, for breaking, entering and theft, two years’ hard labour. Downey Whangaroa Pampalier, three years’ probation for carnal knowledge at. Kirilcopuni. Algernon James Body, two years probation for false pretences. Frank Bailer and John Leslie Buckley!, who iadmitted having escaped from lawful custody, and also a series of thefts, were each sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, in addition to the sentences that they are already serving. Judge Reed said that lie had nothing to do whatever with any complaints made in the written statements put in by each of the accused.
