£VERYBODYS PICTURES. HOOT GIBSON—TO-NIGHT. Probably all the essentials that go' to make an entertaining, pleasing and thoroughly enjoyable movie play aro combined in Hoot Gibson’s latest starring vehicle, “Painted Pones,” a Universal-.Jowel Western, now being screened at tho Princess Theatre tonight. For sheer action, thrills, originality of plot and competent, not tc forget mention of the ribtiekling comedy, injected at opportune intervals, this picture is entitled to plenty of plaudits. The star portrays a particularly appealing role as Bueky Simms, champion cowboy of the north, who blows into Toptown and trouble when ho decides to compete with Pinto Pete for the southern trophy and for tho heart of a pretty girl. Much of the film was made in the arena of the famous Saugus, California roc<lo, and the sequences showing wild horse riding and roping are certainly among tho best ever screened. Hoot proves again that ho is no “actor” cowboy hut a true product of tho plains. Tt will he recalled that lie was the winner of the three world championships in cowboy athletics and his remarkable stunt riding in “Paint-, ed Ponies”' is unexcelled by any of his dare deviltry in former pictures. Taken from John 11. Hamlin’s colourful story, the picture provides an excellent vehicle for the inimitable Gibson, combining exciting melodrama with a human interest loco theme. The director, Reaves Eason, is responsible for many a novel and ingenious twist and he deserves a great deal of credit for effecting a Western feature film that strikes a new and different path of screen entertainment. Tho girl in the ease is petite, auburnhaired Ethlync Clair who made her debut as a leading lady in feature length Universal pictures after graduating from featured roles in comedy , two-reelers and other short-length pictures. William Dunn, a veteran of the stage and silver sheet, lias the outstanding character role as the villain and Slim Summerville is good as the comical cut-up. On Saturday Louise Fazenda and Jacqueline I.ogan in “Footloose Widows.” '.
