Tlie Shaw Saville Shipping Company’s woolsheds at Lyttelton were destroyed by fire on Saturday afternoon. Tho i nc Brigade were called at 2.25 p.m., but on arrival it was seen that there was little chance of saving tho wool store, and efforts were concentrated on saving tho spirit bond stores of Forlies and Co. The shed was 139 ft by 110 ft, ami it had an extension built last year. Fortunately, at this season of tho year, the store was practically empty, but it did contain five hundred bales of wool, four casks of tallow, and valuable wool dumping plant, with an engine.

Tho wool and tallow burned fiercely, throwing up dense volumes of smoke, and within an hour, the whole building was burned to the ground. The cause of the fire is unknown. ’Workmen were not allowed to smoko in the building, and there were no fires or naked lights. It is believed that the wool, tallow, and store were adequately insured, but there will ho a loss on the dumping plant. The damage amounts to £IO,OOO. AVOAIAN’S BODY FOUND. CHRISTCHURCH, - July 30. The fully-clothed body of a woman was found floating in the Avon River near New Brighton yesterday afternoon, and was later identified as that of Eva Brithwaite Atiles, single, aged 40,. of 23 Beresford Street, New Brighton.
