SATURDAY’S RESULTS. INTERNATIONAL. All Blacks 15, Orange Free State 11. SEDDON SHIELD. Nelson 22, West Coast 13. JUNIOR REPS. Grey 31, Westland 8. NEWMAN SHIELD. Grey Technical 19, Hokitika Scliooi 9. THIRD GRADE. Excelsiors 22, Arahura 17. NEWMAN SHIELD. The game for the Newman Shield between representatives of Hokitika School and Grey Technical School attracted a large attendance on Saturday afternoon. The game resulted in an easy wlin for tho visiting team whose .weight broke down the opposition of their lighter opponents early in the second spell, and they then ran over them to score several trios in quick succession, and making their victory assured. In tho first half the lighter Hokitika hoys held up their end, but it was seen that the superior weight of tho visiting school was going to be a factor. The visiting hacks passed well and opened out a number of excellent passing runs that only determined tackling stopped. They were also better in the loose open rushes and from ono of these that went half the field Tindale scored a try that was not improved on. Before this Stapleton had opened tho scoring by kicking a fine goal from a penalty* and before the spell ended he repeated the dose kicking another fine goal, lialf-lime ending in favour of Hokitika by C to 3.

Soon after the second .s pell started Stapleton kicked his third penalty goal, but from then on the visitors had all the best of the play and their backs working well together, anil running strongly, they ran over the opposition scoring four tries, two of which were converted, .leaving the field victorious by 19 points (five tries, two converted, tho scorers being Tindale, Tarrant, Davis, Shuttleworth and Shaw, Tarrant aiul Lindbom converting one each) to 9 points (thwi penalty goals by Stapleton). Mr .E. Heenan was referee. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. The junior representative game between Westland .and Grey districts was a very* disappointing one, and as a result though the opening play was watched by* an even number of spectators, the school game played alongside soon drew nearly* all the attention. Tho play .on both sides was of a very* poor and unattractive nature. Tho game ended in a win for Grey hv 31 points (eight tries, two converted and a penalty goal to 8 points (two tries, ono converted). Mr A. Cutbush was referee.

SEDDON SHIELD. NELSON, July 28.

. Under perfect weather conditions, and in the presence of four thousand s*|>octutors, Nelson (the holders) defeated West Coast for the Seddon Shield this afternoon by 22 points to 13. The game was a fast and open one. In the first half, tho West Casters, who set a strong pace front the start held the upper hand, although they were down two points when the sides changed over. Nelson hacks smothered the fast opposition and not until the second hall' did the local team open up the game. Some spectacular movements were then got off. The Nelson team, however, gave numerous penalties within goaling distance. Had the visitors’ kicking been better they could easily* have added another ten points to their score.

For the winners tries were got by Snodgrass (2), Fowler, Max and Garvin, while a splendid penalty goal was kicked by Snodgrass, and Reid converted two tries.

For West Coast a try was scored by Houston, while two penalty gouls ami a potted goal were obtained by King. INANGAHUA DEFEAT GREY. A combined team from the Star and United, senior clubs travelled to Roefton on Saturday, and met Tnnngahua ill a match on the Reefton racecourse. The weather was beautifully fine and there was a large attendance of the public. The display given by both teams was fast and interesting. The game resulted in a win for Innngahua by 14 points to 8. For the winners, tries were collected by H. Hunt, Hiiidmarsh, Gibson and Gallagher, while At. Hunt converted one try. WEiSTPORT TECH. BEAT REEFTON HIGH SCHOOL. Saturday saw the Northern Division fixture for tbe Newman Shield played at Reefton, when 'Westport Technical and Reefton D.H. Schools met, the encounter being a splendid exhibition of the code. There was very little between the sides. Westport, however, proved by a single point the winners, scoring eight points to Reefton’s seven. The game was played on the Reefton Rneecour.se a.s a curtain raiser to the senior game. The game was very open and the ball was used to ndvan- - tag© by both teams. Air T. Irving was referee. N. Pengally scored for Reeftoil and A. King dropped a splendid goal from the field. The final of the Newman Shield is to he played at Greymoutli before Aug. 17th. and it may be held qn Wednesday at the Park. WAIROA BEAT POVERTY BAY AVAIROA, July 28. W a iron Sub-Union (holders) success, filly defended the Barry Cup this afternoon against Poverty Bay, winning by. eleven points to six, after -a good fast game. Wniroa were much superior in the first half, scoring, the I'3in the whole of their points, but they fell away in the second spell, the visitors having the better of the play and notching six points. AVairoa primary school reps also beat Poverty Bay by six to three. WIN FOR CENTRAL HAWKE’S BAY WAIPUKURAU, July £3. Centra lHawke’s Bay defeated East Coast by 19—6 in their annual Rugby fixture to-day. O’Dowd scored twi for the winners, and Joe King anl Davis also gained tries, while King kicked a penalty goal nnd converted a try, Ryan also adding major points. Jensen kicked a penalty for the losers and Francis a goal from a mark. There was a large attendance.

AVA IRA RAPA v. S. CANTERBURY TEMARU. July 28.

j AYairarapn defeated South Canterbury in the final match of their tour by 14 points to eleven, after a keenly contested game. South Canterbury had the better of the game in the first spell, their forwards playing particularly well in the loose, although facing a strong sun. In the second half AA’airarapn had the assistance of a light wind, and showed greatly improved form. Their forwards used their weight with telling effect, and their backs were much more dangerous on attack. The scores were eleven all till a ipinute from time, when Stringfellow scored after a brilliant run from near half way. Qn the play in the second half the visitors deserved their win. Tries were scored for Wniraraoa by Stringfellow (2)j Jury and Sharp, Stringfellow

converted one. For South Canterbury Scott and Trotter scored,' Halstead kicking a penalty and converting one try.

LEAGUE FOOTBALL. BRISBANE, July 29

At Rugby League football, Queensland beat New South Wales by 28 points to 17.

AUCKLAND, July 28

The North Island League football representatives convincingly defeated the South Island reps by 44 points to 8 in a fast, open game, played at Carlaw Park to-day. The attendance was 10,000.
