On Saturday the Greymouth Technical School sent three basketball teams to try conclusions at Cass Square with the Hokitika High School. Grey Tech Old Girls’ team and the School B team won their matches, whilst Hokitika School A team won from the Greymouth team. The scores were close, and the play very exciting.

The death occurred on Saturday afternoon of Mr Arthur Webb, of Cobden. Deceased was born in England and was 44 years of age. He was a member of the Baddeley Co-operative Coal Mining party (States Mines district). Ho had only been ill for a brief period prior to his demise. He leaves a widow and two children l .

it was reported in town this morning that a dispute between rival sawmillers in Upper Kokatahi district had arisen over the right to use of a by-road. Following the placing of a padlocked gate across the road by the sawmiller who had made the road, we are informed that the second one demolished the gates, and that now the police are being requested to take a hand.

An old pioneer resident of the Coast passed away at the Grey River Hospital on Saturday in the person of Mr Joseph Cundy, aged 85 years. The late Mr Cundy was a native of County Tyrone, and came to New Zealand when a young man. He was well known in the Grey Valley, having resided at Ngahere and Totara Flat for over fifteen years. In the early days he was employed as a, waggon driver in that district. He was single and as far as is known, had no relative's in the Dominion.

Preston’s fishmonger shop in Tainui Street, Greymouth, was broken into on Saturday night and a crate of mutton birds stolen. An entry was effected by the thief smashing a window pane on the front door of the premises. Yesterday morning Sergeant Smyth and Constable Paddy effected the arrest of a man named Peter McDonald, a stranger to the town. The stolen goods were recovered in Chapel Street. The man will bo brought before the Magistrate this morning and charged with the offence.
