(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) FOUND SHOT. CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. With the top of his head blown off by a gunshot wound, Alexander Stockdale, aged 50, a farmer, of Highbank, near Methven, was found dead early this morning, with a double-barrelled shot gun lying alongside the body with one barrel discharged. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. SALES OF SMOKES. AUCKLAND, July 27. Magistrate Hunt gave a decision that despite the exemption granted by the Arbitration Court which entitled certain small shop-keepers to ho open until 8 p.m. on four nights in the week for the sale of smoking requisites, they were hound by the requisition of tobacconists which .subsequently came into force requiring all shops selling smoking requisites to close at 7 p.m. Mr Hunt held this interpretation of the section by the Labour Department was correct and viewing the proceedings as a test case, recorded a conviction without penalty on two shopkeepers.
