Further evidence of the Nationalist determination to abolish traces of ancient China is contained in a message from Peking, renamed Peiping, stating that all manner of marriage rites, funeral ceremonies and procession customary for centuries must be abolished. The Government are considering that such do not conform to Nationalist principles which are revolutionary and based upon modem ideas. Tlie situation is quiet. Several foreign warships have arrived and are awaiting developments. Aleasures have been adopted for the protection of foreign life and property.
