(Australian Press Association.) BRIBERY CHARGES. THEODORE EXONERATED. CANBERRA, July IG. The report of the Royal Commissioner, Judge Scholes, who inquired into Mr Lambert’s bribery charged, has teen received by the Federal Government. It states Mr Mahoney received a. large sum of money to vacate his seat in the Federal Parliament in favour of Mr Theodore, but there is no evidence that Mr Theodore provided any money, except that he gave an amount of £2OO sterling to the Mahoney Testimonial Fund. The Commissioner also found that offers of financial benefits were made to Mr Coleman to resign the Reid seat in favour of Mr Theodore. The Federal Cabinet will meet early next week when the report will be considered.

SYDNEY, July 17. Justice Scholes expressed the opinion .that the amount Mahoney received was probably £SOOO. There was no evidence that Anstey was offered money to vacate his seat.

The Commonwealth Statistician estimates the increase in unemployment in Australia since 4th. quarter of 1926 at 11.2 per cent.

JAPANESE DESIRES. CANBERRA, July 17

The Consul-General for Japan, J. Tokugawa, replying to the toast of our guests at a reception by the Commonwealth Government to the Japanese naval squadron, said that while Japan entertained the kindliest feelings towards Australia, she expected Australia to look kindly upon the closo and friendly relations between Japan and United States. Japan would expect United States to approve close relationship between Australia and Japan, so that a great triangle to guard the peace of the Pacific might be created.
