EXPORT ON CALVES.

The experiment carried out by the Southland Committee in the export of surplus calves is stated to have been an unqualified success. The report of the Southland Dairy Association states that the dairy producers of the province supported the scheme wholeheartedly : 19.347 calves were delivered, of which 18.268 were exported, the remaining 1069 having been rejected as being not quite up to the standard desired. The committee disposed ot the hides and veils locally at satisfactory prices. The veal and offal were shipped on consignment to the New Zealanc Produce Association, Ltd., and vas sold at prices which fully justified the hopes of the committee that the venture would turn out a profitable one. After meeting all charges, the net return to the farmer works out at 9s per head. An advance of 5s has already teen made, and the balance of 4s will ho paid out immediately. | m
