Fabulous salaries have been paid to the fortunate possessors of perfect “film faces,” but in tli© near future faces may command little money unless they are accompanied by good speaking voices, for the sound-syn-chronised film is close at hand.. Sound-synchronisation means tle perfect reproduction of song, dialogue and music, without the use of records or loud-speakers. According to information received by Paramount Pictures from headquarters in New , York, complete sound-synchronised pictures are now being made, and the new type of picture is .expected to revolutionise the industry. Already hundreds of theatres’ in America are installing special equipment for the “sound film.” The new type of film was perfected in the Paramount laboratories alter months of experiments by the company's technical director, in association ' with the Western Electric experts. The experts are now working on the development of standardised equipment. It may he months before it arrives in New Zealand. One of the immediate effects of the new development is a demand for a new type of film star. Air Jesse L. La.sky, head of the Paramount interests. has just returned to America from England, where he completed contracts with actors and actresses with perfect voice modulation. Aleau- ' .while, the stars of Hollywood are busy studying voice culture.
