SYDNEY, July 9. *' Investigations conducted with the object of discovering the source of a peculiar aroma in Australian-grown tobacco which militates against extensive use of the leaf in the manufacture of smoking mixtures, is believed likely to have a far-reaching effect on the industry in New South Wales, \ mtoriu and Southern Queensland. Tests support the exi>ert theory that the o >- jectionable feature is due to the fact that the soil is impregnated for centuries with essential oil of eucalyptus. Experiments in North Queensland where eucalyptus do not the soils, show' tobacco equal to the best American can he grown. Consequently it is believed that eventually the production of the leaf will be transferred to that area.
