The Bank Rate. The “Mercantile Gazettee” evidently looks upon the present high bank rate as a blessing in disguise, and says: As the competition for deposits is still intense there is no likelihood of the overdraft rate being reduced. The continuance of the seven per cent, overdraft rate will not be harmful, for it will exercise a compelling force on industrialists and others to make strenuous efforts to reduce, costs of production.
