Tho Sub-Inspector said a young lady was in Bromley Cemetery, kneeling beside the grave of her brother. She had put her bag on the ground. The accused came up behind and snatched it, and accused was caught by the sexton. As there bail been a number of similar thefts, the police secured a. remand. Accused was convicted and will appear on July 13th.

Air F. Fowler, head of a large London firm of wool merchants, arrived by tlie Arawa to study primary production, at this end, of the wool industry. He says the Bradford market is passing through a period of great depression, woollen firms having all their money tied up in machinery and stock. They had also been hard hit by artificial.silk. Two or three years ago, his firm was importing thirty thousand bales of wool a season from Australia and a large, quantity from New Zealand. "To-day he was buying scarcely any wool. Air Fowler favours the English firms owning their own firms pbrood anil producing their own wool. “I do not say I will do this, but one never knows. I have come to New Zealand with a perfectly open mind, and I want to learn all I can about the wool industry.”

STOWAWAYS FINED. GISBORNE, July G

Four stowaways on the steamer Ivatott front Auckland, were fined £3 in default three days gaol by the Alagistrate this morning. The accused were David Russell 27, Henry AVixon 27, Norman Travers 22 and George Trillo 22.

Referring to a London cable, giving comment by the “Financial News’ on the proposed establishment of the Lon-don-New Zealand Bank, J. G. Elliott M.P., who will have charge of the Bill in Parliament, 'said the application for the charters had absolutely no political significance. There were no unusual features in the Bill. The provisions are in accordance with the existing banking legislation.

The -sequel to the nocturnal visit to the Nurses’ Home on June ,10th. was heard in the .Police Court this morning, when ’ Marcus Alfred Stapleton Mouldey, a labourer, aged 25, was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. " A further charge of assault was withdrawn. , The police statement was to the effect that on the morning of June 30th. at 12.45 o’clock a domestic at the Home was awakened by a blow on the head. Accused had been keeping company with a girl, who had been employed at the Nurses’ Home. He had believed the girl, whom ho had assaulted was tlm one who had caused a break in his relationship with liis friend. / Accused in a statement said he had resolved to seek revenge for separating him from a girl-friend and had made further trouble for himself. Accused pleaded guilty- ami was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
