The House met at 2.30 p.m. After formal business was disposed of, the Imprest Supply Bill No 1 was introduced by the Governor’s message.; Mr Savage moved an amendment censoring the Government for “incapacity and neglect” in dealing- with the unemployed problem and also “for ha ving, paid relief workers a sum totally inadequate to the minimum wage promised.” After a debate lasting till 2.30 a.m., the amendment was defeated by 40 to 14, and the_ Bill was passed appropriating £2,927,000.
The Prime Alinister moved the second reading of the Local Authorities Empowering (relief of unemployment) Amendment Bill, which gives the Government power to subsidise local authority relief work to the amount of £300.000. The Bill was passed unamended. and the House rose at 3.3-3 a.m. till 2.30 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon.
