HOKITIKA GAS WORKS
NEAV HOLDER IN SERVICE.
There was a brief informal ceremony at tho Hokitika Gas Company’s works yesterday when at the invitation of the Works Manager,' Air G. Heinz, tlie Chairman of Directors, Air D. J. Evans, in the presence of the col directors and others turned tlie make of gas into the. new holder.
Tiie new holder, which has a capacity practically three times as great as the holder which has done service for the past fifty years ocld, was completed lately by the Dispatch Foundry Company of ‘Grey-mouth, which, had the contract for tho erection of the plant, the material for which was imported by the Gas Company from England,. on a specification prepared by Air J. Kennedy, of Grevinouth. During the past throe weeks the new holder has been under an air pressure, test, and it is understood has come through very well. In the interval the Company’s staff under Air Heinz, AVorks’ Alanager, has been working on the connections to link tlie gasometer up with the service. The connections were completed as far as necessary for the present on Tuesday, and tested yesterday forenoon. In carrying out the task of turning the make, of gas into"*the new holder, Air Evans, on behalf of the directors and share-holders, took occasion to congratulate Air Heinz on the - completion cf the work and praised Ills good judgment and management in the matter. Reference was. made to the service of those connected with the erection of the holder, and the Company's staff was praised specially for their assistance and support. The work involved a. great amount of detail, and must have occasioned their manager a good deal of thought and perhaps not a little anxiety at times. The successful conclusion to' which matters had been brought would relieve the minds of all concerned, and they c-ould not he otherwise than grateful to ATr Heinz for the valuable work and service ho had done the Company. Thanks were extended to Air Heinz and staff, and appreciation expressed for the consistent and loyal service rendered the Company at all times.
The valves were then operated liy Afr Evans, and the make of gas turned on to the new holder and off the holder of many years’ service. At the call of Air Preston cheers were given for Air Heinz and staff. Afr Heinz thanked the Directors for their remarks and appreciation, and said his work was a labour of love, which ho enjoyed. At tho works the two holders will be kept in regular use, enabling a greatly improved gas service to be maintained throughout the town.
