DISPUTE ON S.S. KANNA. ' DUNEDIN, June 26. Trouble with several members of the stokehold'crew of the Union Coy’s cargo steamer Ivanna resulted in the vessel being held up at Dunedin last night. It is stated that there was some hitch between certain members of the stokehold crew and the ship’s officers while the Ivanna was at Bluff last week. The Ivanna arrived at Dunedin on Sunday -morning, and was ready to sail last night for Napier and Gisborne, but it is stated that a number of stokehold hands refused to accompany the ship because they had been “logged” for some alleged offence, said to have been committed
at Bluff. Late last night all the members of the Ivanna’s crew were given 24 hours’ notice of the termination of their services. 1 '
The men concerned in the dispute
held several conferences with the Union Cov officials to-day. No settlement Was 'reached; The men intimated that they had no desire to retain their berths.
! The Union Coy then decided to pay off' the stokehold section of the crow and this was carried into effect during the afternoon. ‘ An effort will be made to secure the necessary men.to fill the vacancies tomorrow morning, and if no further hitch l occurs the Ivanna will be dispatched on her northern trip to-mor-rowv ■ ' " ’ :
