Shortly after tho opening., of Parliament next week it is likely that the Prime Minister will, he waited on by a deputation of members nml asked to introduce legislation to. legalise euchre and such like tournaments.
The unveiling of a memorial in red granite, which lias been erected by the West Coast miners, over the grave where eight of the victims of the Dobson Mine disaster are buried, "will take place at the Karoro cemetery on Sunday afternoon. It is understood that the Grey Municipal, the Runanga and Blackball Bands will be in attendance. The ninth victim of the disaster, the late Mr Richards, was buried, away from his comrades.
The importance of bee farming on the West Coast is shown by the fact that during the 1928 season 2022 cases of honey, weighing 108 tons passed through the Greymouth Harbor Board’s grading store. This year’s output constitutes a record, being 131 cases above the 1925 season, when 1591 eases were handled at tho store. During the four years since tho grading store has been in existence the amount of honey shifted from Greymouth totals 0381 cases, aggregating 288 tons.
Claimed to he the highest priced bull to arrive in the Dominion, the American show hull, Fairy’s Eminent Ralc-igli, arrived at Auckland on the Hauraki. Messrs Alex. Mo.reland and Sons, of Te Papa., are the New Zealand owners. Fairy’s Eminent Raleigh has won more prizes as a two-year-old in 1927 that any other Jersey hull in the United States. Among other honours the hull has the distinction of taking championship honours at the Central States Exposition. It is understood that the landed cost of the animal is about 1500 guineas.
In a letter received on Thursday, Mr P. R. Climie, organiser for the Canterbury Progress League, further definite information is given of the indention cif Captain Kingsford-Smith and Mr C. T. P. U.lm to fly to New Zeatand. The letter, which is signed by both men, is as follows: —“Captain Kingsford Smith and myself thank you for your congratulations. At present we are not in a position to he able to state definitely what our plans are iregarding the New Zealand flight. Of one thing you may rest., assured, that it will he our next objective, hut regarding the itinerary, we are unable to commit ourselves. Wishing your folk all the best.”

The examiner for motor drivers’ licenses will be in attendance at the County Office on Wednesday to examine applicants for licenses. Persons driving motor vehicles after the 30th. inst. it is notified, unable to produce their licenses on demand, will be liable to. prosecution. . The Hokitika Poultry Society’s annual Shoav takes place on July 10th. and lltli. at the Soldiers’ Hall. A very fine list of special prizes have been donated. Schedules can bo obtained on application to the Secretary, Mr F. Ballinger, with whom all entries close on Saturday night next, June 30 th.
In the Harihari Public Hall on next Friday evening an Anniversary Ball will be held. Patrons attending will be sure of first-class attention. Capital music will he supplied by Miss Evans’s Orchestra, of Ross. The whole ■proceedings from start to finish will go with a lively swing. The ball no doubt will be looked upon by the settlers of Harihari ns one of the outstanding events of the year, and a large assemblage is expected.
