Rain interfered with the County cricket in various parts of the country.
Aliddlesex were beaten by AVent Indies. In the first innings they made 352 for 6 and declared, Haig making 119 not out, Hearue 75, and Hendren 100 not out. In the second, ALddlesex scored 136, Hendren making 52. Constantine took 7 for 57. West Indies in the first made 230 (Constantine 86), Durston taking 4 for 16. In the second they scored 259 for 7, Firnamles making 54, and Constantine 103. AYest Indies thus won by 3 wickers Surrey beat Warwick, who in tlie first made 127, Fender taking 8 for 24, and in the second made 416 for 4 (Kilner 96, Wyatt not out 159). Surrey in the first made 490 for 8 and declared (Shepherd 132, Ducat not out 179). Afayer taking 5 for 137. Surrey won on the first innings.
Derbyshire, who lost to Essex, made 213 in the first innings (Slater not out 58, AVorthingtdn 62), and in the second 226 for 7 (Hutchison 51, AA'orthington not out 7-2). Essex in the first made 215 for 7 and declared, O’Connor scoring 91. Essex won oil the first innings.
Kent beat Sussex. In the first they made 237 (Woolley 128), and in the second 236 (Ashdown not out 100). Tate taking 5 for 53. Sussex in the first made 143, Afarriott taking 7 for 52; and in the second 273 (Langrklge 09, Arthur Gilligan 95). Freeman taking 6 for 96. Kent won by 57 runs.
Yorkshire in the first made 285 (Sutcliffe 63) against Hampshire, whose first innings realised 204 (Brown 56), Rhodes taking 4 for 44. Hampshire in the second made 169, Robinson taking 7 for 63. Yorkshire won on the first innings. Lancashire in the first against Glamorgan made 266 (Green 72), and in the second 196 (Makepeace 58), Ryan taking 7 for 76. Glamorgan in the first made 194, and in the second 136 for 6. Booth taking 4 for 26. Lancashire won on the first innings.
Worcestershire in the first made 117. White taking 5 for 57, and in the second 151, Hill taking 5 for 36, against Somerset, who in the first made 131 (Ingle 53), Tarbox taking 6 for 34; and in the second 102 for 1 (Ingle not out 53). Somerset won by nine wickets.
Nottinghamshire made 487 for 8 declared. against Leicester. Carr scoring 150. Whysall 127. and Payton 100. Leicestershire in the first made 194, Larwood taking 4 for 43 and Richmond 4 for 47. ILeicester followed on, making 201, Richmond taking 4 for 68. Notts won hv an innings and 92 runs.
Playing for Gloucester against Northamptonshire, Hammond made 131 and Dipper 102. Parker took 6 for 76. Playing for Northants. Jupp made 74. Gloucester won.
