Yesterday was the anniversary of the death of the late Richard John Soddon. Wreaths were deposited on the Seddon Memorial in front of the Government building. The late Mr Seddon died at sea on June 10th. 1906, at the time representing Westland in Parliament and being the Premier of Yew Zealand. He was returning from Australia where lie had carried out an important political mission during which he had a wonderful reception from the public wherever he went. Mr Scddon had been connected with the political life of Westland, local and general, .since the early pioneering days. Mr Seddon was Premier of Now Zealand from 1896 to 1906—■ over thirteen years—the longest term of any Premier occupying the Premiership of Yew Zealand.

At a meeting of the Ivokatahi-Koite-rangi Winter Show held at Jvokatahi on Saturday evening the Secretary (Mr T. Kcclesfield) reported lie would lie ulilc to show a fair credit balance when all the accounts were settled. The President (Mr W. A. Jamieson) expressed his pleasure at the success of tlie recent Show and the financial position, which reflected credit on all concerned. A discussion arose on the failure to have special train arrangements made, in spite of the efforts of the committee and the member for the district, the Hon. J. G. Coates ultimately advising that the putting on of a special train was not warranted, it was resolved to make further application next year when it was hoped that the Show would he even larger than this year’s great success. It also was resolved to make other arrangements for the speechifying next year, so as not to take up so much of the time on the second day. It was also stated that a revision ol the total points lor the Show gave second place for most points to Mr J. Fleming, with 157 points, Mr J. Monk being third, with 151. V points. Members generally expressed their satisfaction at the result of the Show and after other matters were discussed the meeting terminated.
