“GRAFT” INQUIRY
(Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, June 0. Tlio Royal Commission inquiring into civic affairs continued to-day. H. l>. -Mclntosh, the newspaper director, through his counsel. stated that he desired to refute a statement made in a document- and .submitted to the Commission yesterday. but which was not read. The statement was that lie was holding £15,0(H) for the International Combustion Coy in connection with its tenders tor tho Bimiierong contract.
In reply to a question iby Mr Slmnd, Mclntosh said that he was never approached by anybody, nor had he had any conversation about acting for the International Combustion Coy in that, direction.
Arnot, the Manager in Australia for the Babcoek-NVilcox Coy was recalled. He gave evidence that ho remembered Milling telling him that £15,000 was in the hands of If. D. Mclntosh, who was ready to hand it over if the International Combustion Coy got the contract.
Charles Bridges, ail ex-Alderman of the City Council, deposed that Hutchinson, the General Manager of the International Combustion Coy., made a proposal that witness should use his influence with the City Council to get the International Combustion Coy’s tender accepted. ' Witness agreed to do this for £15,000, hut when Hutchinson’s principals learned of the arrangement they repudiated it, and the International Combustion Coy’s tender was withdrawn. Mr Bridges denied that any of the Aldermen were even aware of his arrangement with Hutchinson.
