KOKATAHI SHOW

PRESENTATION OF NEWMAN CUP. A very pleasing function took place on Thursday morning last at the Kokatahi Hotel when Mr H. A. Boddington was presented with the Newman Cup. Mr Jamieson in making the presentation congratulated Mr Boddington on his success in retaining the valuable Newman Cup. He referred to the high standard of the exhibits and to the sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition.

Mr Wallace after endorsing the remarks of Mr Jamieson said that Mr Boddington deserved his win but he would not like to see him successful again next year as the Newman Cup had played an important part in making the competition really worth while and ho would not like tho committee to lose it. He also congratulated Mr J. Monk, whose exhibits were only a few points behind those of the winner.

Air H. A. Boddington in replying stated ho had not worked as hard as lie might have done, hut he was greatly pleased with his success. After congratulating Mr Monk, ho said that ho would like to sec more interest taken in the competition and that next year lie would be well prepared to give the best of them a go for the cup.

Mr T. O’Neil took the opportunity to welcome Mr Furlong to the district, saying that “Tom” was one of the “old brigade” who had proved himself a true sport both on the football field and running track in the good “old” days and be was sure lie would do all lie could for tile welfare of the district.

Mr Furlong in reply thanked those present for the welcome extended to him saying that as he had not been long in tlio district be had done very little towards the show this year hut next year lie would see that lie i\a.s with them all the way.

The function concluded with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Follow,” and three ringing cheers for Mr Boddington.
