ITALIA AT POLE. Australian Press Assn.—United Service OSLO, May 23. A later message, via King’s Bay states that the Italia, crossed the North Pole at midnight, no landing being possible. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) OSLO, May 24. The Italia remained at the Pole from one till two in the morning and now is en route lor Spitzbergen.
PROPOSED FLY. NEAV YORK, May 24. A message from Los Angeles says it now is learned that Kingsford Smith hopes to commence his flight to Australia on Ist June. He at present plans to leave for AI ills Field to-mor-row, accompanied by Ulm and there the instruments will he adjusted and final preparations made. Smith declared the crew would be composed of himself and Ulm as pilots, Captain Harry Lyon, of Maine, as navigator, and James AVarner, of Kansas City, as radio operator. Upon arrival at Honolulu the airmen will spend a day or two resting and then proceed to Fiji Islands, where Lyon and Warner leave the plane, Smith and Ulm continuing alone to Brisbane, according to present plans.
