HANFURLY SHIELD. CHRISTCHURCH. May '23. At a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union a challenge was received from Hawke’s Ray for the ltanfurly Shield. The challenging union intimated that it fully realised Canterbury’s difficulty regarding fixtures, but suggested September; 12th as a date for the match in Christchurch, conditional on Canterbury holding the Shield on that date. Mr S. F. Wilson: “ 1 move we accept the challenge and pray we will,be able to play it.” The motion was carried. Other challenges accepted were airarapa for July 18th, and Manawhenua August 11th. The Chairman pointed out that South Canterbury had put in a first claim for a challenge match. It was decided to write to that Union pointing out it would be very hard for Canterbury to fix a date prior to July 18th.
“After tire storm,” the wild wind and the rain, The sun shall shine in its glory again ; “ After the Storm ” and the terrors of night Gladness will come with the dawning of light. After the stress of bronchitis is past The peace of repose will be yours at last; And a waking thought of gratitude pure For priceless Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
