QUESTION OF OWNERSHIP.

AUCKLAND, April 27

The mystery ol the disappearance of a trotter from the sta’bles of A. E. Adams at New Plymouth on Monday evening has been solved. The •horse was The Abbey, a pacing gelding. which has shown considerable promise recently. It was removed under cover of night and taken to A. Cameron’s farm at Mangere. It is there at present. It is understood ■there lias been some dispute between E. Whitehead, of Pukekobe. and Adams as to the ownership of the horse.

The Abbey was bred by Cameron by Gold Bell—The Abbess. All horses sired (by Gold Bell were inclined to be a little high-spirited when young, and at the sale about two and a half years ago Whitehead bought The Abbey in his wife's name for C 8 Whitehead thought bis purchase might prove valuable when a little older. He was not prepared to race the horse himself, and contends he asked Adams to train the horse and race it under the latter’s name, making provision for the division ol the ■winnings after all expenses had been paid.
