April 2,\ The Ford plane carrying the firemen's crew to Washington from Murray's Bay landed at Curtiss Field. Only about one hundred persons wore present but these/broke the rope lines and rushed to the plane and compelled Balchcn to shut off his motors to avoid injuring them. Moreover, as soon as the news of the fliers arrival spread, the crowd grew rapidly. Tile situation was made difficult because New York officials did not expect the plane to stop here and had provided no additional police protection

The lliors were tired and hungry upon arrival. Hcrta Junkers who flew here with them announced they would continue the flip to Washington by train, because bad weather made a continuance by air impossible. This means they cannot reach the capital until four hours alter the scheduled time for Bennett’s funeral.
