WESTLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY

The Society Executive met at the ( utility Chambers at LUo o’clock yesterday. Present:—Mr I). J. Evans 'President), Rev. Knowles-Smitli, Messrs Stapleton, l.ynn. Coles, Swcncy and Morris. Apology was made for the absence of Rev. .1. Hayward and Mr Conning. In respect to the former, it was resolved to send a letter of sympathy in his illness, and wish Mr Hayward a speedy recovery. The minutes of the previous meeting were continued.

R. T. Rush, elocutionary judge, wrote forwarding the test pieces for the competitions, and stated that generally he was imposing a higher grade ol test lor the competitions. The markings would lie the same as previously. In the plavettes it was suggested the performers should be in costume.— Received.

Erie Moss, musical adjudicator, supplied the list of test pieces, also on a higher grade of test. Received and to lie published.

A. Behan and T. Moore wrote placing Princess Theatre at the disposal of the competitions on August IS and 211. Received and terms accepted, with thanks f»r the consideration shown.

It. was resolved the Secretary arrange for the publication of the Book of Words as early as convenient next month. It was decided to retain the dancing section and ask Mrs Hannan, of Grcymntilli, to judge. The syllabus was revised again. Hiieflv as tn age limit for small sections. and some amendments we re made in the direction ol popularising the classes.

The ( hnirinan stated contributions were being received lor the pri/.e tuml, and would lie a very acceptable addition to the financial side ol the ( ompetitions. Members ol the Executive were appointed to receive donations. The Competitions will cover Tour days and nights, namely, Saturday, August |Sih. Monday 20th. Tuesday 21, and Thursday. August 2.Trd. The last evening will he the demonstration night for which a separate charge will he made, with the right to reserve seats. In view of this arrangement il had been resolved at the previous meeting to reduce the pritc of members’ tickets. The meeting rose at 0.20 p.m.
