(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. STRUCK IN THE EYE. CHRISTCHURCH, April lfi. At Addington workshops this morning, J. Payne, single, was struck in the eye by a rivet. He was hospitalled in a serious condition.
EDUCATIONAL. AUCKLAND, April lfi. The Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute in conference with delegates from nearly all ( itv and .suburban schools, also provincial sub-branches, adopted resolutions favouring a system of religious instruction in schools, opposing any move towards the abolition of Education Boards and supporting the principle that each transfer of a teacher from a school ol rising grade, lie considered on its merits. Hope was expressed that the approaching conference would hasten the abolition of payments on average attendances.
A SHOOTING AFFRAY. DUNEDIN, April 1(1. A sensational stabbing affray at Milton is reported. Arthur Lloyd, aged about 21. a Public Works employee at Bahlutha, was removed to •Milton Hospital with a wound in the abdomen two inches deep. His condition is not regarded as serious. It is reported that Inst night the injured man was standing outside a house waiting for a young lady, when William Hassett, aged 2fi, a labourer, caught him by the throat, at the same time stabbing him. Particulars are unavailable.

The man who broke several windows at Parliament Buildings was taken to the police station, and it was said that lie was in a very drunken condition, lie gave his name as Reginald Nelson Will ford White and his occupation as a labourer aged -11. In Court to-day he pleaded guilty to mischief and also admitted drunken ness. The sub-inspector said that AAliite had been unable to give any reason for his cnnduef and had slated that lie had no grievance against anyone in Pa rl ia me lit lUiildi ngs.
“Apparently he is inclined towards this class of offence when in liquor.”
said the sub-inspector. “In 11)2-1 he was sentenced to term of imprisonment for a similar offence. In that case a. number of valuable windows in Kirkrahlie and .Stains’s store were broken.
The Magistrate said that he would treat White as a first offender as the previous offence occurred some years ago. Accused was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and on the charge of committing mischiet he was convicted asd ordered to make good damage to I lie extent ol £2 10s. in default seven days’ imprisonment.
.MOTOR MISHAP. (’HRTSTt’H URC'H. April lfi. A motor-car driven by Mr AA . Wright, of the Lyttelton Abbatnir. overturned down a hank at Rapaki at an early hour yesterday morning, and the driver and a passenger named AY. Kelly, a painter of Christchurch, suffered injuries which necessitated then removal to the Christchurch Hospital. AVright amt Kelly wore taken to the Casualty AYard. where they were attended lly Dr. T>. IT. Oilmour. AVright was found to be xulD-ring from a severely cut wrist. Kelly suffered more serious injuries. ft is thought his skull has been slightly fractured, and he has internal injuries. Roth were taken to the Christchurch Hospital yesterday morning.
BUSH FIRES. OHAKUNH. April Hi. A fierce gale involved Ohabune. Raetihi, Rongaiami. Rakaka, and Haripto in flames. The wind is constantly changing direction, taking tires m all directions. A portion of Ohakune is in grave danger. News is sparse from other centres owing to the roads being impassable. Afany families are surrounded.

The fourteenth biennial movable conference of the Alanchester Unity Oddfellows opened this morning, fifty delegtas from all parts of the dominion attending. The .Mayor, Mr Aladdison, accorded a hearty welcome- to the officers and delgate*. and Grandmaster Aitken delivered his address. He stated that the membership at the end of the year 1927 was 22.290, an increase of 1.177 for a year. The conference lasts until Friday.
