FLOOD DAMAGE

IN SOrTH WESTLAND. During the last few days there have been ,substantial floods in South Westland and tratlie has been held up. Reports to hand state a considerable uniotint of damage has been done.. At .Messrs Stuart and Chapman's bridge, crossing the Waitaha river below the traffic bridge five spans of the bridge have been washed away, the cost of repairing being estimated in the vicinity of I'IOBO. At the Waitangi river two piles of the traffic bridge have been washed out: It is understood that the bridge is still available for light traffic.
