HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES

LOCAL BODIES CONFERENCE. GREYMOUTH, April 14. Last evening the third annual conference of delegates of the local bodies of the Number Twelve Highway District was held at the Grey County Chambers, for the purpose of allocating the revenue derived Irom heavy traflie fees in the district. The tallowing local bodies were represented.— Ross Borough Council, AVestland County Council, Hokitika Borough Council, Kumarn Borough Council. Grey County Council. Greymouth Borough Council. liunanga Borough. Council. Brunner Borough Council. Cobden Town Board. Roller County Council and Westport Borough Council. The Inangahua County Council alone among the local bodies of the highway district was not represented. Afr J. Rvall (County Chairman of Grey) was voted to the chair, and read an apology for absence, through illness, from Air A. .Sloss. Traffic Inspector. The members of the conference were unanimous in expressing their appreciation of the work clone during tlm past year h.v Inspector Sloss. Air At. Keating (Grey County Clerk) explained the effects of the amendments made to the Alotor Lorry Regulations. and enforced as from tho Ist. inst. The conference resolved that, with the exception of some minor reaci.rstnients. the allocation of the revenue from heavy traffic fees should remain as heretofore. Ii was pointed out that the fees collected during the past twelve months Intel shown an increase over the revenue for the preceding year, despite the fact that several large lorries on which substantial lees would have been payable wen? not operating on account ol the slump in the milling industry. A substantial increase' was also recorded m the revenue from motor drivers’ licenses, due largely to the vigilance of the Traffic Inspector.
