Official livestock statistics of New South Wales for the year ended 30th June is horses 623,302, a decrease ot 27,643; cattle 2.818,6.33. a decrease of 118,467; sheep 58,930,000, an increase of 2,070,000; pigs 332.921; a decrease of 49,753.

Charles Brown, managing agent of Sydney Matson line states the agreement with Canadian-Australasian l nion lines is merely formal covering such business as the interchange of passenger tickets, and freiglst rates in future. The yearling sales included the following purchases by New Zealanders — J. Williams, one Treclarc-Hen'dlight gelding 100 guineas ; IV. H. Gaisford. Flying King-Amandine colt, 100 guineas; F. Coy. ot New Zealand for a Commission to examine expert witnesses in England in connection with the claims arising out of the Creyeliff'e collision. STEAMER ASHORE. APIA .April 13. The American steamer Steelmaker, which went ashore on a reef at Ellice Islands a week ago, has not shifted. The Government tug from Pago Pago has been unable to shift her. Two additional tugs are now coining from Brisbane. The vessel has a cargo of five thousand tons ot ore from Noumea. This will be unloaded in an effort to refloat her. N.S.W. CONFERENCE. COAL INDUSTRY POOL URGED. SYDNEY, April 13. The Labour Conference passed Mr Willis’s motion providing for the pooling of the coal output.
COOKS STRIKE. MELBOURNE. April 13. The Marine Cooks have refused to man the Huddart Parker C’ov’s steamer Wcrribec, until the Ulimaroa dispute is settled. Twenty-four years ago, Messrs MacFarlaiie Brothers imported Corriedale sheep rom New Zealand for their estate at Bvloiig. Next week a consignment ol twenty ewes from the Belong estate will he shipped to the Dominion, the purchaser’s object being to secure the blood of the first stud established in New Zealand. The Belong Estate stud has retained the purity ol the breed throughout the last quarter of a century. MURDER OF CHINESE COOLIE. APIA, April 13. Ah Mow, a Chinese coolie, was todav remanded for a week for the alleged murder of another ( hinese coolie near Apia in March last. MALI SYMPATHISERS BANISHED. APIA, April 12. Yesterday in Letogoto \ illage, near Apia, three members of the community who had given umbrage to others, by joining the Man, hail their taro patches rooted up, and they were driven from the village in accordance with ” Fan,” a Samoan custom of banishment.
The occurrence was magnified by alarmist reports, hut the European police who went out, ton ml the village peaceful and wholly pro-administra-tion, as previously, though they were asserting that the white man had too innnv laws and insufficient action.
